Behind TrunkShow
TrunkShow is built by real people who are part of the fiber community, not a company trying to figure it out from the outside.
We’re K and Patrick, a husband-and-wife team based in Northeast Ohio.
K is a disabled fiber artist, yarn dyer, and the voice behind Mourning Dew Studio. She understands firsthand the challenges makers face, from energy limits to the pressure of constantly showing up online. Her work and experience shape how TrunkShow supports makers in a more realistic, sustainable way.
Patrick is a web developer with nearly 20 years in the industry, with a background that blends technology and art, including a master’s in drawing. He’s spent his career building websites and digital platforms, and brings that experience into creating tools that are simple, practical, and actually useful for independent makers.
Together, we also built DyeDir, a directory focused on helping people discover indie dyers and fiber artists. That project reinforced something we already knew: talented makers exist everywhere, but discovery is still one of the hardest problems to solve.
TrunkShow is our answer to that.
We’re building it because we’ve lived both sides of it, as a maker and as someone who builds the tools makers rely on. Everything in TrunkShow is shaped by that perspective, with a focus on keeping things simple, fair, and centered around the people doing the work.
This isn’t a faceless platform. It’s something we’re actively building, using, and improving alongside the community.
Built Differently, On Purpose
TrunkShow is built around a simple idea: make it easier for people to see what makers are actually posting.
Right now, that means a feed that’s strongly chronological. When you post, it shows up. No guessing, no trying to work around a system you don’t control.
As TrunkShow grows, we may introduce smarter ways to help people discover work, but the goal will always be to support visibility, not replace it.
Because of that, there are limits on how many active posts you can have. Those limits aren’t there to restrict you, they’re there to keep the feed usable and give each post a fair chance to be seen.
Spotlights are a simple way to get additional visibility when it matters, like during a drop or release, without needing to constantly promote or compete for attention.
The goal isn’t to maximize content. It’s to make sure the right content actually gets seen.
What We’re Building Next
TrunkShow is actively evolving.
We’re building new tools, testing ideas, and refining features based on how people actually use the platform. Some of these show up as “Labs” features, early tools that makers can opt into and help shape.
Not everything will stick, and that’s the point.
We’re listening closely to feedback from the community and using that to guide what comes next. The goal isn’t to build everything, it’s to build the right things.
If you’re using TrunkShow, your feedback directly influences where it goes from here.
